Communication, Information, and Education (CIE) on Bovine Tuberculosis (bTB), Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) at KUD Kertajaya, Medowo Village, Kandangan Subdistrict, Kediri Regency

Kediri, 31 July 2024 – In order to fulfil their community service duties, the DPP/SPP 2024 team, by Dr. Drh. Siti Kurniawati, M.Ked.Trop., organised a Communication, Information, and Education (CIE) activity for farmers at KUD Kertajaya, Medowo District, Kediri. Along with a team of students from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya, Dr. Drh. Siti Kurniawati, M.Ked.Trop., also coordinated with students (Salsabila Candra Putri, Luthfiyyah Naila Putri Subroto, Bagus Aji Masardhi, Avriell Jasmine Auranzha) who were participating in the Community Service Programme (KKN) in Medowo Village, Kandangan District, Kediri Regency. This programme was designed to apply the knowledge gained in university and to make a tangible contribution to farmers through socialisation about contagious diseases in livestock. During the activity, the students were engaged in milk collection posts, laboratories, animal health care, and at Lucky Farm.

The culmination of these activities took place on 25 July 2024, when the students, together with lecturers from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya, carried out community service at Lucky Farm for the KUD Kertajaya farmer group. A presentation on Bovine Tuberculosis (bTB) was delivered by Dr. Drh. Siti Kurniawati, M.Ked.Trop., with other materials on Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) presented by the KKN students. This education aimed to increase the awareness and knowledge of farmers regarding the prevention and handling of these diseases to maintain the health of livestock in Medowo Village.

The DPP SPP and KKN activities were positively received by the Medowo Village community. The villagers hope that these activities will continue sustainably to further enhance the knowledge and skills of farmers in maintaining livestock health. The active participation of all villagers in each programme conducted also contributed to the success of this KKN.

Through the DPP SPP and KKN programmes, it is hoped that maximum contributions can be made in implementing the three pillars of higher education, particularly in the aspect of community service and the application of knowledge for mutual progress.
