The Integrated Community Service Field Work (KKN) has been carried out by students from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Brawijaya University, under the guidance of Drh. Gretania Residiwati, M.Si., Ph.D. The Integrated Community Service KKN took place over 12 days, from June 24, 2024, to July 5, 2024, specifically in Medowo Village, Kediri Regency, East Java. This KKN activity was also supported by the Kertajaya Village Cooperative (KUD), along with its manager and members.
In this Integrated Community Service Field Work (KKN) activity, a socialization effort was conducted for local residents with the theme of Food Security under the title “Socialization on the Importance of Cleanliness and Sanitation of Cattle Pens to Prevent Mastitis in Dairy Cows in Medowo Village, Kediri Regency, East Java.” The purpose of this socialization was to increase the community’s knowledge and to maintain the quality of milk, enabling dairy farmers in Medowo Village to produce milk of optimal quality. The target audience for this activity was the community and farmers in Medowo Village. The methods used included door-to-door visits to residents’ homes and socialization during community events, such as religious gatherings. The socialization methods included pre-socialization interviews, pre-tests, socialization activities with the distribution of modules or pamphlets, post-tests, and post-socialization. The pre-tests and post-tests served as comparative parameters for the community’s understanding of the material presented. Additionally, prizes were given to residents who participated in the socialization activities.
Based on the pre-socialization interviews and pre-tests administered to the residents, it can be concluded that many residents were still unaware of mastitis, including its causes and prevention methods. After the socialization, post-tests, and post-socialization interviews, there was a noticeable improvement in the residents’ understanding of mastitis prevention. The results from the Community Satisfaction Index (IKM) indicated that the community requested a follow-up socialization program, particularly focusing on the final processing of milk after it has been collected.
Through the socialization activity conducted during the Integrated Community Service Field Work (KKN) in Medowo Village, it is hoped that the socialization titled “Socialization on the Importance of Cleanliness and Sanitation of Cattle Pens to Prevent Mastitis in Dairy Cows in Medowo Village, Kediri Regency, East Java” will be beneficial to the community, especially dairy farmers, so that the milk produced by livestock in Medowo Village achieves optimal quality.
