Brief Profile:
In general, an increase in the availability of veterinarians in Indonesia felt very less. For the livestock sector in Indonesia is the ideal number of 400 020 currently requires a vet, so if it only relies on the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) is available to meet national needs vet like the picture above, it takes quite a long time. As one result of that happening are a lot of problems and the development of veterinary field associated with animal disease and public health, could not be handled or dealt with by another expert who has no veterinary medical competence.
As one of the efforts to increase the number of veterinarians in Indonesia and answers for veterinary workforce needs, the efforts was the opening of the new Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in both the public and private universities. With the opening of the new Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, one of which is expected UB Program Veterinary Medicine veterinary workforce needs to be able to be realized step by step. Currently in Indonesia with a population of around 240 million people has only five (5) Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Veterinary Program was established based on a license from the Ministry of Education, Directorate General of Higher Education 2953 / D / T / 2008 on the delivery of Veterinary Medicine Program UB. Start of Academic Year 2008/2009 has received a student continued to receive the 2009/2010 academic year a number of students doubled.
Currently teaching staff remain with the profession as a veterinarian spread the Faculty of Animal Science, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and the Faculty of Medicine. Consisting of Professors, Doctoral and Masters, alumni of Gadjah Mada University, IPB Bogor, Airlangga University, Australia, France and the University of Padjadjaran. As the realization efficiency of learning and laboratory facilities, Education Program Veterinarian UB is supported by teaching staff of the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Animal Science and Faculty of Mathematics, University of Brawijaya. From the outside UB is ready to support learning in Education Program Veterinarian UB comes from Airlangga University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty, FKH IPB, veterinarians and veterinary practitioners of various related large halls in East Java.
Some basic scientific fields and facilities as well as faculty and laboratory can be synergized and shared between programs with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Animal Science and Faculty of Science are: Biology, Biochemistry, Biomolecular, Biomedical, Physiology, Pharmacology, Reproduction Embryologi Clinical Pathology , Nutrition Clinics and Breeding. While laboratory facilities are currently managed PKH_UB Anatomy, Histology, Microbiology, Parasitology and Immunology. Besides, for the academic activities also facilitated PKH-UB has Polikilinik Animals, which is currently in addition to education also serves the surrounding communities.

UB at the time established domicile in the city of Malang, East Java, on January 5, 1963 by decree of PTIP No: 1 of 1963, confirmed by the decision of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No: 196 of 1963 dated September 23, 1963. The university originally private status, with embryos that had existed since 1957, namely in the form of two faculties: the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Economics, which is a branch Sawerigading Private University, Makassar. Further development into Kotapradja University on May 10, 1957, established the Foundation of Higher Education of Malang on May 28, 1957. The foundation then open the Higher Education Law and Society Studies (PTHPM) on July 1, 1957. Students and lecturers PTHPM composed of former students and lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University Sawerigading. On August 15, 1957 another foundation, the Foundation established the College of Economics College of Economics Malang Malang (PTEM) who later joined the House of Representatives and decided Township area of Malang, dated July 19, 1958 PTHPM recognizes as belonging to the Municipality of Malang. On Anniversary 3 PTHPM dated July 1, 1960, formalized the use of the name of the Municipal University of Malang. The university later founded the Faculty of Business Administration (FAN) on November 10, 1960. On the first Anniversary Commemoration Municipal University of Malang, the name of the university was changed to UB by the President of the Republic of Indonesia through the wire No: 258 / K / 1961 dated July 11, 1961 . On October 3, 1961 merger between the Foundation of Higher Education Economic Malang nurturing PTEM into a new foundation called the Foundation of the University of Malang. At that time UB has 4 faculties, namely the Faculty of Law (FHPM) originally PTHPM, Faculty of Economics, which was originally named PTEM, Faculty of Business Administration (FAN) and the Faculty of Agriculture (FP) in an attempt to obtain the status of the country for the UB. In order to qualify the status of the land, then on October 26, 1961 UB established a new faculty of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry (FHKP) who would be the status of the country.
By SK PTIP No: 92 dated August 1, 1962, FP and FKHP given the status of the land from the date of July 1, 1962 and is under the auspices of the University of Airlangga. Meanwhile in Probolinggo on October 28, 1961 opened a College of Marine Fisheries Department by the Department of Higher Education Foundation Probolinggo then becomes one of the majors of FKHP, ie based on the Minister of PTIP No: 163 of 1963 dated May 25, 1963. Currently, the Department of Fisheries has been established as the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences. On January 5, 1963, UB acquired the status of state university with PTIP Decree No: 1 in 1963. The College of Agriculture and FKHP which was originally under the auspices of the University of Airlangga returned to UB. Decree of the pe-PTIP country’s it has been confirmed by Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 196 of 1963 with effect from the date of January 5, 1963 and the date designated as the day of birth (Anniversary) UB. Since February 3, 1972, the Department of Marine Fisheries College Probolinggo join FKHP UB as Department of Fisheries through the Rector’s Decree No. 229 / Pend.5 / 25-72. At the end of 1970 FKHP has three courses namely Veterinary, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries. Department of Veterinary finally joined the Airlangga University in Surabaya, starting from August 1972 until now the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Most of the teachers follow the Department of Veterinary Medicine mutation to UB and partially returned to Malang Biology Teachers’ Training College, the Veterinary Service and Military Service. Some still teaching at the Faculty of Animal UB as a lecturer in Animal Reproduction, Biology, Histology, Parasitology, Animal Health, Microbiology and Embryology. One reason transferred to the Department of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University, among others, is due at the time the UB School of Medicine does not have, even in Malang has STKM Private University (School of Medicine Malang) in cooperation with the Teachers’ Training College Malang.
