Malang, 15-16 February 2025 – The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya (FKH UB), successfully organised a National Competency Exam Tryout for students of the Veterinary Medicine Professional Programme. This event aimed to provide students with a simulation of the national competency exam to help them prepare for the real assessment.
The tryout consisted of two types of examinations: the Computer-Based Test (CBT) Tryout, held on 15 February 2025 at the Computer Laboratory, Building B, 3rd Floor, FKH UB, and the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Tryout, conducted on 16 February 2025.
The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is a structured and objective method for assessing clinical skills, designed to evaluate students’ competencies in various aspects of veterinary practice. This tryout was the first OSCE held at FKH UB on a national scale, with 93 students from various institutions participating.

The OSCE tryout commenced at 06:30 AM, beginning with technical preparations involving supervisors, internal and external examiners, and standardised clients. Participants rotated through several stations, each testing different clinical skills in accordance with veterinary professional competency standards.
Upon completing the examination, participants were required to fill in an evaluation questionnaire as feedback for the organisers. Meanwhile, examiners and supervisors verified and archived the students’ test documents to ensure the smooth execution of the tryout.
This tryout is expected to assist students in preparing for the National Competency Examination, while also enhancing their understanding of professional veterinary practice standards.
